Have you ever thought about traveling alone?

Six smiling people under the green Mương Đình Lodge sign at the garden gate.

She came to us as her last stop, with no expectations just looking for a quiet place to rest after a long journey. I still remember the moment she arrived… a little tired, a little unsure, just hoping to find somewhere she could feel at ease.

During her stay, she told me:
“I feel like I’m being treated like a princess.”
“I felt safe, cared for, and truly welcomed.”
“I felt like part of your family, not just a guest.”

So I simply shared with her the life I live every day the garden, the fruit trees, the small canals, and the slow rhythm of the Mekong. We paddled together, watched the countryside drift by, and later sat down to weave coconut leaves for the roof, laughing at the little moments when we didn’t fully understand each other, but somehow still did.

There was nothing particularly special or planned… just small, real moments. And yet, somehow, they stayed.

That’s the kind of connection you don’t expect when you travel alone but once you find it, you never forget.

Sometimes, I still miss her.

If you’ve ever thought about traveling alone…
